Death toll in the Arghakhanchi jeep accident has reached 10 after one of the injured rescued from the incident site died at the Sandhikharka-based Arghakhanchi District Hospital, police said. Nine people had died on the spot, while five others are critically injured after the jeep that left the Arghakhanchi district headquarters Sandhikharka for Baandikot of neighbouring Pyuthan fell 700 metres down the road in Hansapur VDC. Nine among the 10 of the victims have been identified, according to police. The injured are undergoing treatment at Sandhikharka-based hospital. The ill-fated jeep witnessed puncture of one of its rear wheel while going uphill at Postapata and subsequent brake failure — leading it to the fatal accident, police informed. As many as 16 people were on board the jeep operated by Deurali Yatayat, according to Nawaratna Paudel, the chief of the Arghakhanchi District Police Office. The Deurali Yatayat’s record, on the other hand, showed the jeep had left Sandhikharka with 14 people including the driver. Tulsi Gaire, an employee at the private transporter, said two people could have got on the vehicle later.
