A great alternative to the bar scene, if you’re not keen on it, are groups of people that meet regularly and with whom you share a common interest. You will get to talk to people who are going through some of the same issues you are facing. Incidentally, you might find a date while you’re at it. If you aren’t already aware of any LGBT groups in your area, begin by searching the internet. Simply combine “LGBT”, “groups”, and the name of your city in the search box to get started.Ask friends if they know of anything. If you don’t have any gay or lesbian friends, think about the places in town you know of that cater to the LGBT community. For example, if there is a gay or lesbian bar in town, you can ask the people who work there if they know of anything, even if you’re not interested in the bar scene. You can even just give them a call. Try looking in the newspaper and the phone book for LGBT resources that may be able to point you in the right direction. This link allows you to search for LGBT support groups in your area.
