Dr. Chitra Prasad Sharma Wagle, who earned distinction as one of few medical doctors to have extensively served in the rural areas of Nepal, has breathed his last at a hospital in Kathmandu on Thursday. He was suffering from appendix cancer for the last one and half years.
Dr Wagle had been admitted to Dhapasi-based Grande Hospital in the capital early this week after he complained about respiratory related problems.
When most doctors in Nepal prefer to practice their profession in Kathmandu and other urban areas, Dr Wagle served in rural areas of Arghakhanchi district where people have very limited access to health facilities. He had introduced many life saving health facilities such as emergency ward, blood transfusion, maternity care and surgery while he was in charge of the Arghakhanchi district hospital.
