Tihar is a regional varient of Diwali and the five-day-long festival celebrated in Nepal and the Indian states of Assam, Sikkim and Darjeeling in West Bengal that comes soon after Dashain. It is celebrated by all Nepalese (Nepali people) and Indian Gorkhas. The Tihar Festival in Nepal is held annually in October and Hindus in the country celebrate it much like they would Diwali, the Festival of Lights during which animals are celebrated and worshipped. That means dogs and cows are covered in garlands and colorful dyes.
