The shortage of blood for transfusion has been seen due to the decrease in the number of blood donation programmes held at the Central Blood Transfusion Centre operated by Nepal Red Cross Society and the high demand. The current demand for blood is 500 units daily, but the collection is very little thereby creating a shortfall in blood supply, according to the centre. With only a very little quantity of blood collected through blood donation programmes at the centre, it has been calling the relatives of patients coming to buy blood to seek for donors.
