Austrian farmers from the village of Frauenkirchen harvested ‘Charapita’, the most expensive chilli in the world, Thursday. The price for one kilogram of the Peruvian chilli starts from €23,000 ($25,600).
The ‘Charapita’ is a small yellow chilli pepper that comes from the northern region of Peru.
“In comparison with other spices, it is very very spicy. It is not recommended to taste or eat it fresh. But as dry, for example in a chicken soup, it gives a light and spicy flavour. Even children can eat it,” farmer Priska Stekovicz said, before adding that it is a unique sort of chilli which “requires a very hot climate and a lot of love to grow.”
