She investigates the leak and discovers some horrifying facts about a young girl who drowned in the water tank. These events are clearly reminiscent of Elisa Lam's story, but the names of Connelly and Gade's characters confirm the setting:

A man hurled a shoe at Naya Shakti Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai at the Prithvi Narayan Campus in Pokhara on Thursday.The former Prime Minister had reached the Campus to attend a programme organised by the Naya Shakti Nepal Student Union, Prithvi Narayan Campus Chapter this morning.According to SP Ghanshyam Aryal of the Kaski District Police Office, Sanjeev Bhattarai of Narayanpur VDC-7 of Kailali had flung the shoe from a distance at the Naya Shakti Nepal Coordinator.Sanjeev is a student of political science at the Campus.It has been learned that he had also shown a black flag and chanted slogans against the leader.Police said that they have detained Sanjeev following the incident.

KP Sharma Oli, today stressed on need to become change-oriented rather than being publicity driven for saving the country. Inaugurating the 12th General Assembly of Child Nepal, a non-government organisation working on child rights, former PM Oli said people from all walks of life should join hands for building the country. He urged all to work for change rather than being publicity oriented. He called for institutional and individual contribution for protecting children’s right rather than reliance on government’s sole contribution.

Nepal's opposition parties on Friday obstructed the parliament for the second consecutive day, saying the Constitution amendment bill, aimed at carving out a new province to meet the demands of agitating Madhesis and other ethnic groups, is "against national interests". The continued protests by the opposition parties led by CPN-UML forced House Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar to reschedule the meeting for Sunday. The Parliament Secretariat had set the agenda of concluding general discussions on the impeachment motion against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki for the meeting today.

KATHMANDU: The opposition parties continued House obstruction for the third consecutive day on Sunday. Parties including the main opposition CPN-UML have been protesting the Constitution amendment bill that the government registered at the House recently, claiming the proposal was against national interests. CPN-ML, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and Nepa Rastriya Party have seconded the UML for the obstruction. As soon as the meeting began today, NWPP lawmaker Anuradha Thapa Magar sought time to speak and demanded that the government immediately withdraw the bill.

Different students’ unions and youth organizations have protested against the constitution amendment bill registered by the government in the parliament even today. They have organized different agitating programmes in front of the various government campuses urging to withdraw the bill soon for few days. Locals, different political parties and industrialists have protested against the amendment bill as it has the provision of excluding some districts from the Province No 5 and including in the Province No 4. Various districts were shut called by various political parties against the changes in the boundaries of the province in the constitution amendment proposal. It is noted that district-based political parties, people’s representatives, civil society representatives and business community have come to the street against the bill for few days urging to withdraw it particularly in province No 5. Academic institutions, factories and transport service have remained closed for few days in the area. All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) secretary R C Lamichhane has urged all to be united for the nationality and sovereignty adding that the amendment bill was centred to disharmonize the social cohesion in these districts.

KATHMANDU: Former British Gurkhas have demanded that the government organise talks with the United Kingdom government to solve their problems. According to them, they have been facing problems of inequality and discrimination from the UK government. Meeting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his official residence in the Capital on Saturday, former members of the British Army drew attention of PM Dahal to carry out negotiations with the UK government and solve their problems. “Nepalis are getting less salary than other British army personnel, though being at the equal level. There are many instances of discrimination and inequalities,” said Krishna Bahadur Rai, a former Gurkha. He added that even a report on the status of former Gurkhas of the House of Commons, the lower house of British Parliament, has not been implemented.

KATHMANDU: Dr Govinda KC, who had been staging a fast-unto-death for the past 21 days, has ended his strike drinking juice from the hands of a two-and-a-half-year-old Marshang Tamang, an earthquake survivor, on Sunday. KC ended his 10th hunger strike after he signed a 12-point agreement during a meeting with the government representatives today.

KP Sharma Oli has said the six-day state visit to India was very successful, as it helped to clear misunderstandings between the two countries and restore harmonious relations. Upon his arrival home by completing the India visit on Wednesday night, PM Oli told media at a press conference held at the Tribhuvan International Airport that though the Nepal-India relations witnessed frosty situation for some time, his visit was successfully in wiping it out, and help restore cordial relations.

Also Read: Sunday’s cabinet meeting has decided to accept a loan assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to connect Naubise with Nagdhunga through a tunnel. JICA is to provide approximately Rs 18 billion for the project which is expected to ease road traffic in and out of the capital Valley. The project covers a 2.5 km tunnel and an additional 7 km of road. “The proposal is for about Rs 18 billion but the exact cost is yet to be worked out as the detailed engineering is still underway,” said Baikuntha Aryal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

With a steady rise in the number of drugs abusers every year in Nepal, the number of people arrested on the charge of its smuggling is noticeably increasing of late in the country. The statics of the past six years (2011-2015) made available by the Nepal Police show that a total of 15,496 drugs smugglers were arrested in the country in this period. The number of people arrested on the charge of drugs smuggling was 2,174 in the year 2011 and this number was counted at 2,475 till the end of August this year. Over 2,000 individuals were detained on overage every year in the last five years (till last year) on the charge of their involvement in drugs abuse and smuggling. The number of women is around over 100 every year.

Then, lawmakers of UML, ML, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Rastriya Janamorcha stood up from their seats to obstruct the House. The parties had obstructed the Parliamentary proceedings on Thursday also.

A water buffalo was killed from an electric shock at western Kusaha – 4 of Sunsari on Thursday.The water buffalo had strayed into human settlement from the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve for grazing when the incident took place, locals said. The buffalo came into contact with the live wire set up to protect the crops.The incident site is located five hundred meters east of the Reserve’s office, Conservation Official, Shyam Kumar Sah said.A team of veterinary doctors has been called from Saptari district in coordination with District Animal Service Office, Sunsari to carry out a postmortem examination of the water buffalo, he added. KP Sharma Oli, today stressed on need to become change-oriented rather than being publicity driven for saving the country. Inaugurating the 12th General Assembly of Child Nepal, a non-government organisation working on child rights, former PM Oli said people from all walks of life should join hands for building the country. He urged all to work for change rather than being publicity oriented. He called for institutional and individual contribution for protecting children’s right rather than reliance on government’s sole contribution. On the occasion, Oli conferred the National Child Rights Award to Agatha Thapa, a campaigner for children’s primary development. CPN (UML) lawmaker, Rameshwor Funyal, emphasized on implementing the children’s rights which is enshrined in the constitution as a fundamental right. At the program, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) acting Chairman, Prakash Wosti, launched the campaign ‘Love is our right’ introduced by Child Nepal.

Justin Wilkins was recently awarded a payout for a 2012 incident involving Oregon police officer Captain Rob Edwards. Wilkins received the payout when it was confirmed the cop kicked him in the chest. Edwards was on patrol in an unmarked police vehicle when Wilkins passed him on a solid line. Edwards pursued the reckless biker for nearly five minutes, during which the biker can be seen on police dashcam footage weaving in and out of cars. The biker was forced to slow down a bit as he approached an intersection. Edwards comes to a stop as well, but not before knocking the biker to the ground. The officer’s adrenaline may have played too big of a role and landed him on the defendant’s side of the courtroom. Edwards stepped out of the patrol car, drew his weapon and kicked Wilkins in the chest before putting the biker in cuffs. Wilkins suffered a broken clavicle and fractured rib but the $180,000 from the excessive use of force claim likely has him feeling better.

Dr. Chitra Prasad Sharma Wagle, who earned distinction as one of few medical doctors to have extensively served in the rural areas of Nepal, has breathed his last at a hospital in Kathmandu on Thursday. He was suffering from appendix cancer for the last one and half years. Dr Wagle had been admitted to Dhapasi-based Grande Hospital in the capital early this week after he complained about respiratory related problems. When most doctors in Nepal prefer to practice their profession in Kathmandu and other urban areas, Dr Wagle served in rural areas of Arghakhanchi district where people have very limited access to health facilities. He had introduced many life saving health facilities such as emergency ward, blood transfusion, maternity care and surgery while he was in charge of the Arghakhanchi district hospital.

Two organisations affiliated to the CPN-UML have announced programmes against the government’s Constitution amendment plan. ANNFSU and Youth Association Nepal announced their protests on Tuesday, pointing that the amendment process has begun even before full implementation of the Charter. In a press statement, YAN Chair Rajiv Pahari and ANNFSU Chair Nabina Lama said: The masses will not keep quite if there are efforts to amend the Constitution without popular will. Young students will hit the streets against such efforts without fearing for their lives. The organisations appealed all patriotic and young students to stand firmly in defence of the Constitution and for its implementation.

Kathmandu, November 21 Nepali Congress lawmaker Dhan Raj Gurung announced on Monday that he will give away the hiked portion of his severance package to earthquake victims. Gurung made this announcement a day after the Parliament increased lawmakers’ pay and perks, meaning each lawmaker will get more than one lakh rupees per month. Gurung pointed that post-quake reconstruction work is not moving ahead and that quake victims are not getting relief. In this context, it is against the parliamentary practice to hike lawmakers’ pay and perks, Gurung pointed.
