Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the efforts to register a constitution amendment proposal before his India visit have gone futile.Speaking with representatives from Madhesi Morcha and Sanghiya Gathabandhan—alliance of Madhes-centric parties protesting against the constitution—at his official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday, PM Dahal said that it was hard to take ahead the amendment-related discussions as the issue have been unnecessarily linked with India. “I insisted on registering the amendment proposal before my Delhi visit. This has nothing to do with Delhi,” said a leader priviy to the meeting, quoting Dahal. “It seemed the time was too short despite phase-wise discussion. The dialogue process became complicated as it was unnecessarily linked with India.” PM Dahal assured of expediting talks with agitating Madhesi parties after his return from India trip, saying that the talks so far have remained positive on four issues including demarcation of federal state boundries.PM Dahal further stated that although it was not agreeable to form two states in Madhes as demanded by the Madhesi Morcha, a close-enough deal could be strike on the demarcation issue after consensus with the agitating sides. He said he was ready to seek consensus on citizenship issue, state language and national assembly.Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal’s senior leader Ashok Rai, TMLP General Secretary Sarbendra Nath Shukla, Sadbhawana Party Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna, Rastriya Madhes Sadbhawana Party General Secretary Keshav Jha, Sadbhawana Chairman Anil Jha and BhanuramTharu from Tharuhat, among other leaders affiliated to Morcha and Gathabandhan, were present at the meeting.
